Sexual Assault - Avoiding Pregnancy

Unless you were using birth control at the time of the rape, there is a risk of pregnancy. If you choose not to carry an unwanted fetus to term, you have several options. For example, your doctor can give you emergency hormonal treatment with the "morning after" contraceptive Preven or insert an intrauterine device (IUD) to prevent a fertilized egg from developing in your uterus. Fortunately your chance of pregnancy is extremely low—between 2 and 4 percent—unless the attack took place in the middle of your menstrual cycle.
